Benefits of Mulch
Mulch is ideal around shrubs, trees, and many perennials because it improves the
soil over time and protects roots from temperature swings.
- Helps regulate soil temperature and moisture
- Reduces weed growth when installed correctly
- Improves soil structure as it breaks down
- Gives beds a clean, finished look
Benefits of Decorative Stone
Stone can be a great option in the right areas—especially where plants are
limited and you want a clean, low-maintenance look.
- More permanent in non-planting areas
- Good around mailboxes, edges, and accents
- Reduces the need for frequent top-ups
- Available in different sizes and colors
Bed Prep & Clean-Up
We prepare beds so mulch or stone sits correctly, looks even, and doesn’t end
up washing out after the first rain.
- Remove surface debris and light weeds
- Rake and level existing material where needed
- Cut or redefine edges for a sharp look
Material Installation
We bring and install mulch or stone at the right depth for your plants and
location—not too thin, and not piled against trunks.
- Even coverage at proper depth
- Keep material away from tree trunks and siding
- Install around plants, walkways, and features
Final Rake & Clean Finish
Once installed, we do a final walk-through, rake, and clean-up so your beds
look finished and tidy.
- Final leveling and raking
- Blow off sidewalks, driveways, and hardscapes
- Haul away excess material and debris

How often should I refresh my mulch?
Most mulch beds should be refreshed about once per year to maintain color and
proper depth. Some shaded or lower-traffic areas can go longer, while high-visibility
beds may benefit from yearly touch-ups.
How deep should mulch be?
In most cases, 2–3 inches of mulch is ideal. Too little and weeds push through
easily; too much can suffocate roots or hold too much moisture. We install mulch
at a depth appropriate for your beds and plants.
What’s the difference between mulch and stone?
Mulch breaks down over time and helps improve the soil, making it a great option
around shrubs and many plants. Stone is more permanent and lower-maintenance in
the right locations, but it can hold heat and isn’t ideal for every planting area.
We’ll recommend the best option for each part of your property.
Do I need landscaping fabric under mulch or stone?
We generally do not recommend landscape fabric under mulch. Over time it can
trap soil and moisture on top, making weeds harder to manage and roots harder to
reach the soil. For decorative stone, a high-quality woven landscape fabric is often
recommended to help reduce weeds and keep stone from sinking into the soil.
Can you remove old mulch or stone first?
Yes. We can remove excess or badly built-up mulch and relocate or haul away stone
as part of your project. We’ll outline removal work in your estimate so you know
what’s included.
Will mulch attract bugs or pests?
Any organic material can attract some insects, but proper depth and placement help
minimize issues. We avoid piling mulch against your house or tree trunks and can
recommend where mulch vs. stone makes more sense from a maintenance standpoint.
